By Vera

I am Vera, similar to Paolo Coelho’s the Zahir, I value truth.

I rebel against any forms of institutionalized belief and I value freedom and spontaneity. I have a high regard on the primacy and validity of human passions and its role on man’s life.

I am a Post Modern Feminist. I see myself as equal with men, and I don’t fancy people who view women as mere objects for sensuality and thinking that they should always be a knight in shining armor for them.

I am an atheist. I don’t necessarily believe on the existence of any religion, but highly regard “truth” as mere hierarchies of truth or emerging or descending probabilities.

I am a proud Filipina.

    Hi Vera,

I’ve been a militant atheist, a socialist, and a feminist for years. I haven’t seen a site as refreshing as yours for a long time.

I live in Europe, but I’d love to hear from you on any topics you like.

I would be especially keen to hear your take on relativism, epistemological and cultural. As an opening salvo (invitation to debate): I am a moral but not a cultural relativist.

    I also believe agnosticism is a poorly thought-through non-position.

    Writers I like:

    Roy Bhaskar
    Daniel Dennett
    Anthony Appiah (on “race” only)

    Samual Beckett
    James Joyce

    Subjects I’ve taught:
    Comparative Literature
    African novel
    Cultural studies

Right, I’m going off at the mouth too much.

I’d love to hear from you.

    Regards,

    Ciaran

Have you heard of that madman who lit a lantern in the bright morning hours, ran to the market place, and cried incessantly, "I seek God! I seek God!" As many of those who do not believe in God were standing around just then, he provoked much laughter... "Whither is God," he cried. "I shall tell you. We have killed him - you and I. All of us are murderers.... God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him... -Friedrich Nietzsche, The Gay Science,
